Who are you, where are you from, and what is it that you do?
My name is Thomas, I live in Freiburg, Germany. I take pictures of people. Portraits, nude, in black and white, always in a simple setting, in a reduced style.
Why do you do what you do, and what is it that you are most passionate about?
I started my photography some years ago, photographing all kind of genres, landscape mostly and I liked it. But it took some time to realise that it’s portrait photography, that I always wanted to do.
Since I am quite shy, it was not easy for me to enter people photography. I started taking pictures of my daughters. Over the time I took courage and booked my first model. I now take pictures of people that are in front of a camera for the first time as well as of people that are used to be photographed.
Is there something you have learned about yourself or society because of the work you create?
I learned about myself, that with perseverance you can achieve your goal, even if it means to yourself to overcome a inborn shyness.
Who is your favourite model you worked with, and why?
There is not one single model that I prefer. I love to meet someone for the first time in the context of a shooting. It is a challenge to connect with this person, create an atmosphere in which this person feels comfortable.
Only out of this confidence you can work together and create art.
Which artist do you admire the most or has been an example or mentor to you and why?
There are so many great photographers, it is hart to pick a few. Like so many others I like the work of Peter Lindbergh.
I also like Donata Wenders, Vincent Peters, Andreas Jorns, Stefan Beutler, to name but a few.
What is your most favourite artwork you created?
