A few days ago, I came across a reel on Instagram that’s been lingering in my mind ever since. As I was selecting this week’s photos, its message resurfaced:
“If it stirs something within you… then art has fulfilled its purpose.”
There’s something beautifully simple and profound in that thought. And looking at this week’s selection, I can say they’ve done just that for me.
Enjoy your weekend!
Contours of Silence
In this series of photographs, I explore sensuality as an intimate, internal experience shaped by the viewer’s perception, imagination, and emotional sensitivity. Sensuality, for me, is not merely about what is explicitly shown but rather about what is subtly implied and quietly felt.
Drawing from Japanese aesthetic principles, my images will embody the understated elegance of Shibui, the mysterious and profound beauty of Yūgen, and the intentional use of emptiness and silence represented by Ma. Shibui guides me toward subtlety, allowing beauty to emerge slowly and quietly, inviting viewers to look deeper. Yūgen inspires me to create images that gently hint at deeper meanings and hidden emotions, evoking contemplation and introspection. Through Ma, I intentionally incorporate space and silence into my compositions, leaving room for the viewer’s own interpretation, encouraging them to complete the story within their minds.
Ultimately, this series seeks to engage viewers in a personal, reflective experience, inviting them to find their own sense of sensuality within the quiet, delicate interplay of suggestion, subtlety, and space.
